Epiphany in the Airport! Something Needs to Change America!

Today sitting in the Charlotte Airport, I realized that there is something more important than weightlifting and powerlifting. I took a little obesity survey with my own eyes. I counted the first twenty people, and realized that 12 out of the 20 were obese. Before you start hating, I wasn’t judging the people. I was just taking notice of the American culture.

First off, I’m not judging the people. If you want to be heavy, go for it. I am just worried about the health of Americans in general. Personally I want to be able to play with my son when he gets older. I want the same for my family, friends, and the rest of you. I don’t know what prompted me to take notice today of all days, but I am fired up. I understand what my friend Martin Rooney is so fired up about.

When Martin Rooney first started talking about Training For Warriors, I couldn’t understand why he wanted to do something besides Athletic Performance. Now I get it! He’s after the bigger picture. Martin, as most of you know, is the most prolific Speed Coach in America when it comes to preparing athletes for a combine. Now he prepares people for life!

He told me a year ago that he gets more pleasure from helping people achieve their first push-up or pull-up than he does an athlete getting chosen in the first round of the NFL Draft. My new manager at Mash Elite Performance is that guy! Dylan Parkes reminds me so much of Martin Rooney or Zach Even-Esh. It’s as if he will never sleep until every American is in shape. His energy is just what I needed to catch a new fire.

Don’t get me wrong, I still love the strength sports and Athletic Performance, but now I am going to put a new emphasis on health for all my athletes and my adults. I still want Olympians just overall healthy Olympians. It’s simply a bigger picture with an even bigger impact on the world.

The starting point for this new movement has been with my own health and workouts. I now workout 6-7 days per week with two of those days including multiple workouts for a total of 8-10 workouts per week. My workouts are balanced with:

-strength: Olympic weightlifting and powerlifting
-structural balance thanks to Zach Greenwald
-Metabolic conditioning
– mobility
– movement
-aerobic capacity

I am thankful that I have started my newest Online Team: Eat What You Want! Lift What You Want! Teaming up with the Working Against Gravity crew of Hayden and Adee has been one of the wisest business decisions of my life because we are affecting the bigger population. We emphasize nutrition along with strength training, and we are reaching all populations. We work with Weightlifters, Powerlifters, CrossFitters, and the stay at home moms of the world. We are simply helping people reach their goals the healthiest way possible, and for that I can sleep like a baby at night.

I plan to help my Mash Mafia Weightlifting and Powerlifting Team get healthier as well. A more balanced approach will make them stronger than ever, and will help to keep them healthier for the years to come. I want medalists probably more than any coach I know, but not at the cost of health. However I am a firm believer that health and performance go hand in hand.

Whether it is Athletic Performance, Olympic Weightlifting, or Powerlifting, here is what a balanced plan looks like:

-Strength Work
-Speed work
-Muscular Balance

If you add in:

-Spiritual Health
-Mental Health

Then you have the perfect plan, and you are helping to change the world.

Pretty much my whole life, I have had a longing to impact the world. On of my biggest fears is going through life with zero purpose. I want to know on my death bed that I have at least tried to leave this world a little better than I found it. I want my son and daughter to know that their father did everything that he could do to:

-Love them
-Love his wife
-Love God
-Love others
-Impact the most people with the most good

None of us live perfect lives, but the desire to do so is what matters, and the motivation is even more key: because of what Christ did for us. With MuscleDriver USA, Mash Mafia, Mash Elite Performance, Smashed Barbell, and Barbell Life, God has blessed me with a massive platform to impact a massive amount of incredible people. My movement will start right there!

I hope that everyone understands that I am not saying that everyone should be ripped to be cool. Heck I’m not ripped at all. I am just saying that let’s get our priorities straight in America and around the world. Wealth without health is useless. Let’s simply take steps to get healthy again America!
