Trusting God When Life is Complicated

Trusting God When Life is Complicated

Lately, God has been giving me several curve balls. Now this is not a blog of me whining about God not doing what I want Him to do. I am 100% completely content with my life. God has been super gracious with my family and me. We just had our first little boy, Rock, and my schedule allows me to be with him a lot throughout each week. I literally have the best wife in the world, and we share a very unique love for each other. My career has me working with some of the best athletes in the United States, and I am able to affect thousands of lives throughout the world with my Online Teams.

A lot of times when things don’t go as planned; we tend to forget about all the good in our lives. That is the biggest mistake that we can make because then we start throwing a pity party for ourselves. Look around! Do you have family, clothes, shelter, and food? If so, be content! Being content in my circumstances is something that took me a long time to get used to.

If you are setting goals, making plans, and working hard, you have to trust that God will do what’s best for you. This is a hard one to learn. However, when you learn it, peace in your life will increase. Not only will peace increase, but also productivity in your life will increase. If you spend all your time crying about things not going as planned, you are wasting time. Instead you should try spending that time moving on to the next adventure.

The key to dealing with plans not going the way that you want them is to find a quiet spot, lift your thoughts up in prayer, and then be quiet and listen. No I am not talking about a mystical conversation with God. I am just saying to pray, and then think all the steps through. Maybe God is laying out His decretive will for you, and you are just not looking at it with open eyes. A lot of the time, the answer is really clear, but we need to open our eyes.

Nowadays our lives are so busy that we literally get caught up in a massive rut. It’s like we are wind up dolls going through the motions. I have been there. I still get there sometimes, and then I simply slow my roll. Don’t let your life get so busy that you forget to live it!

Ask yourself what is your idea of a perfect life? Personally my idea of a perfect life is spending time with God, time with my family, coaching my athletes, traveling, writing, and podcasting. Those are the things that I enjoy. I am easy to please, so I guess that you could say that I already live like a millionaire.

When things don’t go as planned, I always remind myself that I am already doing exactly what I love to do. Maybe God wants it to look a little different or to be in a different place, but I am still doing exactly what I love. For all of you the key is to write down the perfect life. Then I recommend starting to move towards just that. I always tell my friend and partner Chuck that all circumstances are more acceptable if you are working towards better circumstances. If you have to start with baby steps, and then keep putting one foot in front of the other. You will eventually get to the destination like that.

Now a lot of you might be saying that this guy is getting too preachy today, and that is ok. Maybe I am. Truth is that I wrote this one for me, but hopefully it will help some of you as well. When times are a little foggy in life, I try to remember Romans 8:28 “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”

Happy Hump Day! Now get out there and start putting one foot in front of the other!
